Hello friends! I am so glad you are here!
My name is Adrienne Carter. I am married to my best friend Garrett! We are puppy parents to our sweet two-year-old Goldendoodle named Finn. I am a small town girl from Virginia and Garrett is city boy from Florida. We lived in Florida for a year and a half after we got married but Garrett’s job has brought us here to Denver, CO. Some of my favorite things include strong coffee, DIY projects, and skiing!
I work full time as a paraprofessional in Special Education. I love where I am but my true passion is helping women find their identity and worth in Christ. I am so excited about how God is using Salt + Light and this community has really been a dream come true! I am so thankful that you are here and cannot wait to get to know you more!
Salt + Light was an idea God placed on my heart to build community for young women to be encouraged and inspired everywhere. You may be wondering what Salt + Light means. The concept comes from the bible in the book of Matthew where Jesus preached the sermon on the mount. Jesus says in Matthew 5:13-16:
“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.”
Salt – Salt is most commonly used to add flavor. Personally, I use salt to add flavor a little too much. Anybody else have that problem? Salt is also used to act as a preservative to prevent decomposition. I believe that what Jesus is saying in this verse is that we are the preservers of earth. If we don’t preserve, the earth begins to rot and stink. Jesus calls us to be salt.
Light – The idea of being a light is a little easier to understand than the salt thing. We live in a dark world full of hate and unrest. Being light means sharing the hope of Jesus with others and letting your life reflect him. Jesus calls us to be a light in our dark world.
